Greetings & Blessings,
I'm a newbie to the group and to a life without meat. If anyone has any suggestions, receipe's or ideas I'm game. shoot'em my way. Right now I'm reading Queen Afua's
"Sacred Woman" for cleansing and clearing the physical & spiritual aspect of me. In short
I want live, feel , taste & breath again.

Re: New to the Vegetarian Life
Thu, July 5, 2007 - 11:09 AMTake it one meal, one day at a time.
It's better to think about what you are eating, instead of what you aren't.
Summer's the best time for reducing/eliminating meat from the diet. Warm weather supports a diet that is 50-100% raw, or consists mainly of fruits, salads, and veggie dishes.
What else are you doing (cleansing-wise) besides the Sacred Woman program?
It may be more helpful if you gave us an idea as to your meals, shopping habits, and dining choices before we bombard you with suggestions. Tell us where you are in your life.
When did you start your transition?
What percentage of your diet is meat-based at this point?
What percentage of your meals are home-cooked verses restaurants/fast food?
When is your biggest meal of the day?
What are you replacing meat with?
Are you still eating dairy?
How much water do you consume a day?
What kind of kitchen tools do you have-knives, blender, juicer, etc?
What does it mean for you to live, feel, taste, and breathe again? How will your food choices help you reach this goal?

Re: New to the Vegetarian Life
Thu, July 5, 2007 - 2:44 PMI've been heading in this direction (Vegetarian) for the last 6 yrs, but it's only been since february that I've made the full transition, I'm a Polarity Therapist and in Polarity the clearer you are (as a whole person) the healthier you are. I'm not into vegetarainism for the sake of losing weight, I'm in it (and it in me) for the positive change in my life. I shop @ open farmers markets, trade bodywork with other farmers, I've just started eating according to the seasons and so on. The info you've shared with me will help and remind mr greatly.
Thanks again

Re: New to the Vegetarian Life
Mon, October 22, 2007 - 2:45 PMHi Anasa...I too am new to the vegetarian lifestyle...right now I am doing the five day raw challenge to purify and cleanse. I was told by a raw foodist of more than twenty years that it was not necessary to take something to cleanse...I am finding tough by just eating veggies and fruits it is happening naturally...I do not know that I will be able to keep this lifestyle but i will remain a vegetarian though. I am excited about it. Although I have children and a husband who is a meat eater, I am stopping all processed foods, and perhaps I will win them over a s well...I just feel bad about switching them without making gradual adjustments first. I am 31 and I just have been experiencing health problems and I attribute it to food and lifestyle. I want to feel better and live longer for my family...It is not easy however getting a man who was raised on red meat and potatoes to switch....and i also have a child who has an aversion to certain textures, fruits and veggies make him gag horribly...any suggestions anyone??? -

Re: New to the Vegetarian Life
Tue, October 30, 2007 - 8:14 AMI recently ran across a couple of cookbooks on Amazon that talk about pureeing fruits and veggies and hiding them in your kids' food. It was similar to a notion I once had while working at a daycare center, seeing the kids flat out reject the veggies. But that's because they could see them. I thought, well if you puree veggies and pour them into spaghetti sauce, for example, how would the child know? One of the books talks about using veggies of similar color for whatever food you are making,ie, cauliflower or yellow squash puree for mac n cheese..even using veggie puree in some desserts. One of the authors talked about how one of her kids stopped kicking and screaming when the food that got the purees came out tasting so good. One of the books is called The Sneaky Chef, I believe. Good luck.

Re: New to the Vegetarian Life
Sun, November 25, 2007 - 4:20 PMBlessings all... I'm a newbie myself, out of health and survival. I've recently found out that I could no longer eat processed foods. I was wondering if there are any support groups in the Washington, DC area. Any light that can be shined will be greatly appreciated.
In peace@~~
