Hello, My name is Lisa. I have been vegetarian for about a month now. I am also overweight. Does anyone know if a vegetarian diet causes you to automatically lose weight? Even though I don't eat meat, I still deal with a sweet tooth. I have a tendency to eat junk (cookies, candy, chips, etc). The change to a meat free diet was not for weight loss, but a result of a piece of fast food chicken that was still cluckin and tryin to fly lol. Please advise,
Lisa

    Hi Lisa,

A vegetarian diet does not automatically cause weight loss. Although I lost a lot weight when I changed my diet, it depends on the type of vegetarian diet you have. Many people who consume dairy and eggs still are taking in a lot of fat, and eating a lot of junk food will still give you extra calories. I have a sweet tooth too, and have seen my weight fluctuate throughout the years. I think the important thing is to eat a whole foods vegetarian/vegan diet and have healthier snacks, or indulge your sweet tooth once/twice a week instead of every day (that's my method). I also recommend having regular physical activity.
