Question: Ready for that "New Year's Resolution?"
Answer: ? (Didn't think so).

Well thanks to the "Grotto" at Sports Basement - you have a "free" chance to improve your well being ... ..

)n 01 December 2007, Sports Basement joined together with local yoga teachers to give a yoga gift to the community.
Next yoga class:

• Sunday, 30 December 2007 - 10:30 - 12:00 noon. -
• Yoga Flow - with Annie Leguennec
• http://www.sfgoju.com/

• Sports Basement --San Francisco
• 1590 Bryant St.
(415) 575-3000
http://sportsbasement.com

And due to the very high turnout of yoga students, speed walkers, coach potatoes, Fat Tire Beer Specialist, snowboarders, and then some . . . Starting January 2008, Sports Basement will host free yoga classes each & every Sunday from 1:00 - 2:30pm.

Yoga Teachers of various styles (Iyengar Yoga, Ashtanga Yoga, Vinyasa, Raja Yoga, Kundalini, Anasara Yoga, Yin Yoga, Power Yoga, Anna Forrest Yoga, etc.) will present their unique connection with the yogic path.

Check back each month and see who’s in the mix – free yoga classes by yoga teachers of all walks of life. Official Website: http://ynottony.com/yoga1.htm

And, if you are a yoga teacher (or a soon to graduate yoga teacher) looking to share your knowledge, practice karma yoga (community service), and put yourself in the public eye, come join in & volunteer your services making yoga affordable for every individual. Pick one Sunday per month . . Teach as many months as you would enjoy doing. . . .

Yoga teachers will receive a $25.00 gift certificate from Sports Basement (per yoga class) & can use the platform as a way of promoting themselves and their unique yoga experience.

Regardless, it's a grand opportunity to start the year on the right path, meet some like minded individuals, see life in a different light, & calm the mind.

* Yoga teachers of all schools of yoga are invited to teach.
* Yoga students of all levels are invited to attend.

For more information or to get your name on the yoga teacher's list - contact: Iyengar Yoga Teacher, tony at:: http://ynottony.com/contact.php

1. Send a brief Yoga Bio
2. Send a list of your available Sundays in January, February & March - 2008.
3. Send a link to your website, personal profile (Myspace, Zaadz, Tribe, Yelp review, etc) or something which speaks highly of you
4. Start advertising your yoga class

Wishing the best of all possible worlds,
tony

I've read (in Queen Afua's books) that meat-eaters who are intimate with vegetarians can poison their mates. Has anyone heard of this, and does anyone have resources I can share regarding this topic?

I have a friend who has never heard of this, and I want to pass along information.

The nutrition secret behind The Secret
by Mike Adams

With the popularity of "The Secret" rapidly growing in the United States and around the world, there's growing interest in finding ways to maximize results while using the power of intention and Law of Attraction. Few people really know one of the most important secrets to making "The Secret" work: Establishing the right nutrition and dietary habits that clear your nervous system and allow intention to flow. In this article, I'll share some of the best nutritional secrets about The Secret, covering:

1) Foods and substances that interfere with the power of your intention.

2) Foods and substances that enhance the power of your intention.

Once you learn this information, you'll instantly discover ways to greatly enhance the effects you get when you apply your intention (or invoke the Law of Attraction). You'll also come to recognize why the great spiritual leaders throughout the world all gravitate towards similar diets that are free of certain substances (such as red meat).

Let's begin by examining those foods and substances that interfere with the power of intention and the Law of Attraction.

Foods and substances that block the power of intention
The power of intention (i.e. the Law of Attraction) only works when you have a clear, healthy nervous system that's free from distortion. Invoking the power of intention is a lot like broadcasting a message from a radio tower, and your nervous system (brain, spinal cord, nerves, etc.) are the transmission tissues.

A radio tower only works well when it has sufficient electricity, clarity and symmetry. It also can't be gunked up with interfering signals or overriding disturbances. Your own nervous system is the same: For it to function well, it must be free of distortion and operating at peak performance. The following items greatly interfere with healthy nervous system function and therefore inhibit your power of intention:

Meat products: All animal-derived foods impair the clarity of intention, and this is especially so if those foods are derived from cruelly-treated animals (like feedlot cattle). This is why so many spiritual leaders around the world refrain from eating meat. It's also why vegetarians are generally more peaceful, spiritually balanced people than heavy meat eaters.

Alcohol and drugs: All recreational drugs (including alcohol) impair healthy nervous system function. Clarity cannot be achieved while under the influence of nicotine, alcohol, meth or street drugs. While there are medicinal uses for some natural drugs (such as medical marijuana), their use still inevitably interferes with clarity and clouds the Law of Attraction, so use them sparingly if at all. On the other hand, there are also natural plant-based medicines that actually enhance clarity when used as part of sacred spiritual journeys. Western society has declared such substances to be illegal drugs, but they are deliberately and consciously used with great care in healing journey experiences in many other parts of the world.

Caffeine: Even caffeine interferes with healthy nervous system function. The onslaught of daily stimulants leaves the body depleted of energy, unable to reach the level of vibration necessary to effectively broadcast intention to the universe.

Television: Watching television fills your mind with false messages, clouding your mind with ideas that distort reality and impair your ability to connect with the universe. Have you ever noticed that the people who watch the most television seem to be unable to attract those things into their lives that they want? It's because television acts like an intention blocking device, draining away your intention energy and filling your head with ideas and beliefs that only serve the interests of corporations and governments.

Processed foods: Processed foods not only lack the nutrition necessary for healthy nervous system function, they're also typically loaded with excitotoxins like MSG, aspartame and yeast extract. These substances damage the functioning of the nervous system, making any practice of the Law of Attraction virtually impossible.

Fragrance products: All fragrance products based on artificial chemicals impair the healthy functioning of the nervous system by dulling the senses and limiting sensory acquity. Achieving success with the power of intention requires eliminating ALL fragrance products from your life. These include most shampoos, laundry detergents, dryer sheets, soaps, perfumes, cosmetics, deodorants, skin creams and other similar products. In each of these categories, there are many alternatives available: Natural products that are either fragrance-free or made from essential oil fragrances only. If you wish to find success in applying the Law of Attraction, it's crucial to get these artificial fragrance chemicals out of your life (and away from your nervous system).

Processed sugar: Sugar greatly impacts the healthy functioning of the nervous system, and refined sugar is a lot like crack in the way it alters (and impairs) brain function. All refined sugars should be avoided, including high-fructose corn syrup (the sweetener in sodas), dextrose, sucrose and others. While you're at it, avoid white bread and refined grains, too, because they're very similar to sugars in the way they impact the nervous system.

Aspartame: This artificial chemical sweetener greatly impairs healthy nervous system function. This is partly because aspartame can chemically break down into trace amounts of formaldehyde, and formaldehyde is an extremely toxic nerve poison. Drinking aspartame is sort of like poisoning your brain with chemical preservatives. That's great if you're trying to embalm yourself, but not so good if you actually plan to use your brain for anything useful.

Things that enhance the power of your intention
Once you're free of the substances interfering with your power of intention, you can move on to enhancing your nervous system health with proper supportive substances. Here are the most important items to consider:

Raw foods: Raw foods really cleanse your nervous system and restore healthy brain function. Drinking raw food juices on a regular basis (freshly made in your own blender, not processed) greatly enhances clarity and the power of intention. Most spiritual leaders around the world follow diets based at least in part on raw foods. Following a raw foods diet for just 30 days will dramatically clear your senses and turn you into a powerful broadcaster of intention.

Vegetarian foods: Avoiding the consumption of meat and dairy products is also an important way to keep your system clear and lend power to your intention. Meat and dairy products stagnate the flow of energy throughout your mind and body, blocking the intention. To get the best results, go completely dairy free (except for raw, unprocessed milk, which qualifies as a raw food) and meat free.

Personal integrity: Acting with integrity multiplies the power of your intention. When you consistently do what you promise, especially in relation to others, you gain power and confidence in your own actions. This translates into significant improvements in the Law of Attraction. People who steal from others, exploit them or harm them are acting outside of personal integrity and typically demonstrate a very poor ability to attract things into their lives that they really want. It's a vicious cycle, too: When they can't attract what they want, they turn to stealing, and this in turn diminishes their ability to attract what they want in the future.

Clean water: Hydration is crucial for good nervous system performance. I will even say that you cannot possibly engage in effective intention exercises when you're in a state of chronic dehydration (as most people are). Drinking plenty of water clears metabolic wastes from your body and even lubricates the nerve cells throughout your body! So drink more water and you'll boost your results.

Microalgae superfoods: These superfoods offer a two-fold benefit: They cleanse the liver (which purifies the blood and improves mental clarity) and they offer natural high-density nutrition from nature. The four I recommend are spiruline, chlorella, blue-green algae and astaxanthin (www.Nutrex-Hawaii.com). One of the top brands of raw microalgae is E3 Live, which you can find at http://www.e3live.com/index.htm

Healthy oils: Consuming regular quantities of healthy oils and omega-3 fatty acids makes a huge difference on the power and reach of your intention. Eat more chia seeds (www.GoodCauseWellness.com), avocados, raw coconut oil (www.RawFoods.com) and minimally processed plant-based oils. Fish oils can also be supportive if you choose to eat fish-derived products. Flax seeds serve a similar purpose for those who are vegetarian.

Berries: Eat massive quantities of fresh, raw berries to boost nervous system function and greatly enhance the power of your intention. Berries offer nervous system protection medicines, and they also happen to halt cancer, prevent eye disease, enhance memory and prevent Alzheimer's disease. Be sure to eat a variety of berries so you get all sorts of different colors: Black raspberries, blueberries, red raspberries, strawberries, acai, red currants, wild berries, etc.

There are, of course, many other nutrients and natural substances that can enhance mental function and clarity. Everything from tropical fruits to garden greens provides a strong benefit in boosting the power of your intention.

My personal secret to success
People tend to look at my own accomplishments as being "remarkable" or highly successful in various ways. They see me as getting many things done in a very short period of time, and they often wonder how I accomplish these things. My greatest secret is that I frequently practice the power of intention (and I have a specific process through which that is practiced), and I avoid all the foods, beverages and personal care products that interfere with the power of intention.

In the past, some people have wondered why I drink no alcohol, use no drugs, drink no coffee, take no medications, etc. People have asked me if I'm a member of some specific religion with pristine dietary practices, but the answer is quite simply that I have arrived at my own spiritual practice and I choose to respect my body and mind as tools for creating a better future. I actually came to this conclusion mostly on my own, and have since found that it is aligned with the spiritual paths found in virtually all world religions. It all makes sense, too: You simply can't be a highly spiritual person if you're consuming angry cow meats and altered dairy fats!

I intentionally avoid all substances that intefere with intelligence, clarity or spirituality, and I go to great lengths to cleanse my body using nature's medicines: superfoods, rainforest herbs, raw foods, and so on. By the way, the best cleansing products I've ever found at available at www.BaselineNutritionals.com (look for the Liver Tincture and the cilantro-based anti-mercury tincture).

The secret to my productivity and ability to manifest those things is simply that I'm wholly committed to treating my body and mind as sacred entities. I do not allow myself to be polluted with television, pharmaceuticals, recreational drugs, energy vampire people (like friends who drain away all your energy) or processed foods. The result is that when I focus on something, it manifests relatively quickly (there's still a whole lot of work involved, of course, but that's the nature of getting things done in this physical world). Perhaps there is some other version of the multiverse in which intention is instantly translated into effects, but here in this one we all share, intention often requires practical steps for manifestation. (So don't forget the part about applying effort, too!)

Want a better life? Clean up your energy channels
This is not information I've shared before, but it's probably the most important secret to success that I've ever written about. If you want to make things happen in your life and manifest more wealth, abundance, loving relationships, happiness or whatever, you've got to get serious about cleaning up your "broadcast channels," which means cleaning up your diet, eliminating any substance abuse, avoiding influence from television and so on. It doesn't mean you have to become a hermit and live in the woods somewhere (although that certainly wouldn't hurt on a temporary basis), but you do have to stop living the disconnected life of typical consumers who are addicted to processed foods, alcohol, television, drugs, video gaming and other things.

I don't claim to be perfect in my own habits. I still eat meat when traveling (but never from mammals such as cows or pigs), and my diet isn't as raw as I would like. I also spend way too much time sitting in front of a computer, but that's a necessary choice I've made for engaging in online education and article writing. But like you, I'm always striving to make my diet and lifestyle one step better, and by doing that I'm constantly moving into higher states of vibration that naturally augment the power of my intention.

You can do the same. All it takes is making the commitment and taking on one change at a time until you're completely rid of the toxic influencing factors and fully embracing those things that work to multiply the power of your intention. Before long, you'll find the Law of Attraction working far better than you ever imagined, and you'll really start living the magical life you're attracting through conscious intention.

It's really not complicated, nor even mystical or "new agey." It's just the application of common sense: If you want to create a better future and manifest your desires, you've got to clear you head, get rid of the junk and start nourishing your internal broadcast antenna (your nervous system). Once you do that, you can start to broadcast your intention to the universe, and you'll find that everything you focus on begins to manifest far more quickly.

Speaking of intention, please feel free to share this article with anyone you know who's familiar with "The Secret" and who might benefit from knowing these nutritional tips. You can copy and paste the article in an email, or just send the web address (URL). Spread the word: We need more people with high vibrations in order to overcome all those folks running around with LOW vibration, don't you think? The more high-vibration people we have in the world, the brighter the future will be for us all.

Hello,

I have been on a meat free diet for a little over a month now. The only problem is, I still experience cravings for junk food. Cookies, chips, candies, chocolate, juices/soft drinks, etc. Do any of you seasoned Veggies of color have any suggestions to remedy this? I have increased my water consumption, and am eating whole grains, fruits, and vegetables. Please advise.

Hey all!!

I am having so much fun experimenting with new kinds of foods and recipes. I never knew vegetarian dishes could be so diverse and delicious!!! I guess I'm still in the honeymoon stage with my new way of eating. I am slowly making the transition into veganism. I rarely drink milk, but still on occasion consume cheese and ice cream.

Is almond milk used as a milk substitue, or for cooking? I took a trip to the health food store on the way home from work, and bought some. I remember an old post from someone saying they use almond milk.

Thanks,
Lisa

Officially beginning on July 1st and ending the 7th in the forests of Fallsville, AR the National Rainbow Gathering Of Living Light will commence. Folks usually go early and stay late to help cleanup.
I have attended this event twice and it has completely shifted my perspective of what is possible in America.
The event nationally takes place once a year in a different location deep in the woods, always on a mountain next to a valley. It is titled a leave no trace event(all signs of attendance and stresses on the earth from our presence are corrected) and no money is exchanged for entrance or participation at any point. The attendance is at a minimum of 25,000 every year and this event has progressed since the cultural shifts of the late 60's/early 70's.
informational links/movies can be found at the bottom.
On the 4th of July silent meditation and prayer for peace happens until noon across the entire camp followed a parade of children and celebration. The spiritual, peaceful, and creative find their way to this event from all over the country and the world. The words Rainbow Family in the longer title are both a reference to the group's inclusiveness of all people and to "living lightly," an awareness of the great effect one can have on his or her environment.
Over 60 communities will be representing themselves as camps and serve food, culture, and knowledge for free. Bartering does take place at the event but no currency can be used at the event.Bring nothing but a bowl and spoon if you so choose and you will be abundantly gifted.
This event is a city which exists for a short time and manifests the goals and lifestyle that we pray and work for to spread worldwide/fulltime.
Many religions come to represent but it is not dominated by any one group and alcohol is not allowed in the main area.
This event is wonderful and the people ive met there have educated my mind, body, and spirit.
It has one flaw that stands out and i hope you can help me to solve it.
This event is not ethnically integrated.
Many people of white skin will have love for the earth, hands for the drum, and acceptance of people but the word of thiis event has not traveled to enough communities. I will be one of the few men of color attending this event(african ancestry/cherokee ancestry) and i pray to see the rest of my human family in this wonderful place
we call home.
It does feel like home,
people look you in the eye with honesty and say welcome home at every step.
This is a pow-wow in the sense of spiritual leaders gathering and women receive as much respect as men in this social understanding. Families often come and a village exists for the care of children.

I invite you to research and encourage you to come.

Hello, My name is Lisa. I have been vegetarian for about a month now. I am also overweight. Does anyone know if a vegetarian diet causes you to automatically lose weight? Even though I don't eat meat, I still deal with a sweet tooth. I have a tendency to eat junk (cookies, candy, chips, etc). The change to a meat free diet was not for weight loss, but a result of a piece of fast food chicken that was still cluckin and tryin to fly lol. Please advise,
Lisa

Sisterly Support

Posting to let you know about an online emotional support community for women of African ancestory through which members can trade free, confidential half hour phone sessions in things like Compassionate Listening, Spiritual Guidance, Goal Achievement Coaching, etc.

It's called Phone Sisters (http://www.phonesisters.com) and I would love it if you'd take a look at the site and consider joining. If you really support the usefulness of the community, I would appreciate your doing whatever you can to help spread the word to other sisters. It's a really new community (in its first week still) so very few members right now, but I think over time it could be a valuable resource in the lives of many women. It will rely completely on word of mouth to grow though, so its future is a shared creation.

Blessings!

African-American culture and vegetarianism

Hi everyone, I'm new here. Glad you all are here!
I had a discussion with some friends (black people included) that disturbed me somewhat. My husband works at a cultural center that seeks to embrace social justice. They've been throwing around the idea of having a barbeque for the neighborhood (largely people from the African diaspora and Latina/o community) and how people wouldn't come if the cultural center kept to their 'no meat' policy, since it's part of the African-American and Latino cultures. I personaly feel this is an opportunity for non-vegetarians to experience how tasty veg food can be. Anyone have any opinions on the subject?
Thanks,
Sugati

Veg-Curious here

Ok I have to admit I was a bit hesitant about joining this tribe. But when I started reading the post and checking things out I just had to.
Thanks for starting it and keeping it going.
Right now I am not a vegetarian. But 10yrs ago I stopped eating beef and pork. Doing that just really boosted my energies. Once I did that I have often thought - whats holding me from taking the leap to full Veg. I honestly can see myself leaving all meats behind. But as I read in one of the earlier post - particularly for communities of color it is all about exposure of new and different foods.
I have a good friend/co-worker whose husband is a vegan chef and he makes the most appetizing delicious foods that no one would ever know is meatless and without dairy.
Another tidbit that I have read was a memeber who said that once they stopped eating meat, their acne cleared up. I am 33 yrs old and still get severe acne(UGHHHHH) so this definatly caught my attention. If anyone has any more info or discussions on that I would be glad to hear.

Ok enough of my rambling .. thanks again for the info and site...
Bandu (future veg) :)

September 7th - 10th, 2006
Charlottsville, VA

Awaking The Shaman Within Ritual Intensive are a set of spiritually charged ceremonies that assist in conjoining the participants with the world of the elemental and ancestral spirits. These rituals assist in establishing a true connection with African ancestral spirits, whom reside in the inner dimensional planes. Participants have often experienced feelings of reconciliation, healing, self renewal, remembrance of true divinity and reconnecting to personal spiritual mission. With the guidance of Elder Shaman Dr Malidoma Patrice Some, one would gain an experience of a lifetime and begin to walk the path of a Shaman.

The cost for the ritual intensive is $695, $695 /$600 if registered by July 1st 2006. Payment plans are available. To reserve your space you need to submit a deposit of $250 with a completed registration form. To request a registration form send an e-mail to heruankhra@yahoo.com.
Kiddie Casserole

Ingredients:

2 medium potatoes
6 vegan sausages or SOS mix equivalent
2 tins of British baked beans
4 tablespoons oil or margarine
4 tablespoons white flour
1 cup soya/oat/rice milk
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon pepper (or more to taste)
1 teaspoon garlic puree
1 finely chopped onion

Directions:

Slice the potatoes (skins on if you prefer) thinly and boil until almost done. Drain and set aside.

Cook sausages according to specifications, and slice into chunks. Combine them with the baked beans in a casserole dish. Layer the potatoes on top, covering everything underneath. depending on your casserole dish, you may need more potato.

In a separate pan, heat the oil on medium heat, and fry the chopped onion until soft. Add 1/4 of the soymilk and once hot, whisk the flour in slowly. Then add the rest of the soymilk while stirring. Once gently bubbling, take the pan off the heat and add the remaining ingredients. Stir thoroughly, then pour the milky sauce over the potatoes and bake in a 220 degree centigrade (425 Fahrenheit) oven for 20-30 minutes, until brown and bubbly.

Kids love this one, but I'll confess, I'm 22 and make this for myself all the time.

Serves: 6ish

Preparation time: 30 mins

Ingredients:

1 27oz. can Hunts Classic Italian Garlic & Herb spaghetti sauce (The No Sugar Added kind)
1 cup textured soy protein
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon Onion powder
1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
1 teaspoon vinegar
3 dashes Mrs. Dash
24 Zesta saltine crackers

Directions:

Pour sauce in sauce pan and start to cook at medium heat. Add all ingredients except vegan crackers and stir well. The textured soy protein will take about 5-10 minutes to absorb the sauce. When it gets completely moist and has taken in most of the juice, crumble the vegan crackers and add them to the pan. When you mix in the vegan crackers, the meal is finished.

Jacks Tofu Fish

Ingredients:

extra firm tofu
seaweed (Nori is good)
lemon juice
soy sauce
water
vegetable oil

Directions:

First of all, if you don't like fish, don't try this out. When I made it the first time, the taste was -uncanny. The texture was pretty close, too. Personally, I almost didn't go vegan because I love fish... especially unbattered fish on bread. This recipe definitely helps me not miss real fish. Notice the ingredients aren't measured. I always do this without formal measurement, usually its all proportional, and I haven't yet made the same quantity twice.

This works best if you freeze the block of tofu, and then thaw it. Cut the tofu into 1/4 inch thick slices. Line a waterproof dish with seaweed. Put the slices into the dish, over the seaweed. Then cover the slices with more seaweed. Fill the dish with about 1/8 inch water (halfway up the tofu). Then fill it with soy sauce until the tofu is just about covered. Squirt lemon juice over the top. Let this marinate for about a night (I let it for 24 hours).

Cover the bottom of a pan with vegetable oil. Lay the strips of tofu in the oil. If the seaweed slips off, simply put it in the pan along with the tofu. Turn the stove on medium heat and let the strips fry. Every so often, flip them around. I usually can tell they are done when the edges turn brownish. Take them out and eat them like you would fish.

Eventually I'm going to try baking tofu using this marinade. If anybody does this before I do, I'd love to hear how it turns out.

Preparation time: 1 day

not exactly like fish, but extremely reminiscent of it.

what do you guys think it will take for the black community to recongnize the importance of a mostly vegan/ vegatarian diet?
When it seems that black american food culture is saturated with a primarily flesh diet. I have tried to teach the importance of eating a healthy array of living foods to other blacks, but it seems to scare them.

Multi Grain Milk Recipie?

I just polished off another container. I would love to be able to make this myself. Does anyone have a recipe? I prefer the taste over straight nut milks, and I can be allergic to raw nuts (sometimes, not always).

Thanks!
- Tania :)

Introduction

Hi everyone.

My name is Tamara and I am from Brooklyn, NY. Though I am not a vegan (I still eat chicken and fish), I have been taking the steps to live a more healthy and organic lifestyle. Why did I join this tribe you may be asking? Well, I am a big fan of the vegetarian lifestyle as true vegetarians have a focus on clean and healthy living. I am always looking for people with that mindset (unfortunately not many of my friends think that way). I've adopted some of the aspects of vegetarianism that I read in books but a lot of things can not be picked up by books but rather by talking to others and learning from others experiences. I hope you don't mind the intrusion.

4 oz of Firm Tofu

1/4 cup of fresh diced Tomato

1/4 cup of fresh diced White or Yellow Onion

1 seeded finely chopped Jalapeño Pepper

1/4 cup of chopped Portobello Mushrooms

3 to 4 Large floor Tortillas

1/2 cup of shredded Veggie Colby Monterrey Jack Cheese

3 to 4 tbsp of Mild Pic ante' Sauce

Dash of Sea Salt

Dash of Coarse Ground Black Pepper

1 tsp of fresh finely chopped Cilantro (Optional)

Sauté the tofu in 1 tbsp on low fat margarine or fat free cooking spray. While sautéing the tofu chop it up coarsely with your spatula to resemble scrambled eggs. Add the tomato, onion, jalapeño pepper and mushroom after the tofu is chopped. After 5 minutes add the cilantro and continue to sauté on medium heat for 5 more minutes. While the mixture is sautéing heat the tortillas by microwave or oven or skillet just enough to make them soft and moist. After 10 minutes of sautéing salt and pepper to taste and remove from the heat. Take 2-3 tbsp of the mixture and spread it lengthwise at one end of the tortilla. Add a liberal amount of cheese and a tbsp of the pic ante sauce. Fold the filling side over into the tortilla. Fold the top and the bottom of the tortilla over to avoid spillage. Continue to roll into a burrito. There you have it. There can be variation to suit ones taste, such as: for milder burritos substitute green peppers for the jalapeño peppers. Black olives can but added in place of mushrooms. To stay strictly vegan use tortillas made with vegetable shortening, no eggs and no milk. This will also reduce the fat of the burrito and eliminate cholesterol from the burritos. Each burrito has contains 4 to 6 grams of fat and no cholesterol.

--------------------------------------------------------

Mock Chicken Dumpling Soup
Ingredients (use vegan versions):
1-2 boxes of pre-made vegetarian chicken broth or stock -(found in most health food stores)
5 carrots peeled and chopped
4 celery sticks chopped
1 cup snow peas or vegan sugar snap
1 small onion minced
1 handful parsley
2 cups green beans
1 cup cooked rice
1 pkg of miso (can use tofu- although miso is better)
Directions:

Greetings. This is a great recipe for a cold winter day.

The stock I use has 32 oz in each box. I would recommend putting the 2 boxes in to feed a family and 1 box for a small meal.

Take all ingredients except for cooked rice and miso and put in pot. If necessary add 1 cup water. Heat till soup mixture is thoroughly warm. Combine cooked rice (brown is best) and miso together in separate bowl. Make sure that the miso and rice is thoroughly mixed together- if necessary add a touch of water so that the two items stick together. Take the rice w miso and form into small round balls- sometimes add a small amt like a tsp or 2 of olive oil will help them stick too... Once the balls are formed - Turn the soup in pot down to low heat..

To Serve: Put soup in bowl and add the rice/miso balls individually into each person's bowl. If u add the rice/miso balls to the pot of soup they will crumble... This way to will stay together better. Enjoy

Serves: 4-5

-------------------------------------------------------

Peanut Butter Cocoa Banana Smoothie
Ingredients:
1 banana (frozen or room temp.)
vanilla soymilk (as desired)
2 tablespoons flax meal
2. 1/2 tablespoons cocoa powder
2 tablespoons peanut butter
Directions:

Choose the size of glass. Cut up banana, and place in glass. Pour soymilk over banana, into the glass, to the level preferred glass. Pour soymilk, and banana into blender.

Measure in flax meal, cocoa powder, and desired amount of peanut butter. Blend for approximately. 20 seconds. on various speeds. I start with the 'Blend' setting, and then transfer to 'Whip', and last do the 'Frappe'. The idea is to have the liquid look frothy. I look for bubbles on the top. Pour into the original glass, and enjoy!

This is a great source of potassium, protein, calcium, and B-12(if using fortified soymilk), and Omega-3's from the flax meal. It is a great start to a day, along with a yummy bowl of granola or oatmeal.

This is a great smoothie for breakfast or as a snack.

Serves: 1

Preparation time: 5 min.

-------------------------------------------------------------

Coconut Milk Rice Pudding
Ingredients :
1 16 oz can of Coconut milk
2 cups of cooked rice (brown or white)
sweetener, your choice, enough to sweeten the milk
1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
optional:
vanilla vegan soymilk, to pour on top the bowls of pudding
1/2 cup of coconut, to add to the recipe for variation
Directions:

Heat the coconut milk in a heavy saucepot, over medium heat, until it comes to a simmer. Add sweetener and stir until dissolved. Add the cooked rice and heat through. Simmer until it thickens but don't allow it to become too dry, the rice will continue to absorb the milk as it cools. Take off the heat and stir in the vanilla. Serve warm or chilled.

** We love to eat this warm for breakfast or chilled for dessert. If it becomes too dry just serve with some vanilla soy milk poured on the top.

** Sometimes I add about 1/2 a cup of grated coconut to the recipe as I'm heating up the milk and the sweetener.

Preparation time: 15 minutes

You Want Fingers with That?
Thu Mar 24, 2005 09:02 AM ET

SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - A diner at a Wendy's fast food restaurant in San Jose, California, found a human finger in a bowl of chili prepared by the chain, local officials said on Wednesday.
"This individual apparently did take a spoonful, did have a finger in their mouth and then, you know, spit it out and recognized it," said Ben Gale, director of the department of environmental health for Santa Clara County. "Then they had some kind of emotional reaction and vomited."

Local officials launched an investigation after the incident on Tuesday night and the medical examiner determined on Wednesday that the object was a human finger.

Officials are trying to determine if the finger came in the raw materials Wendy's used to prepare the chili, Gale said.

Wendy's International Inc. corporate office did not immediately return a call for comment. Wendy's is the third-largest hamburger chain.
